Colorful peel and stick wallpaper for a vintage and joyful kitchen by Jony Amour

A vibrant kitchen makeover

Last spring, while I was happily scrolling through Instagram looking for new colorful inspirations, I stumbled upon Jennifer’s amazing account: @jony_amour. Jony is a young woman from Lyon with a bold and joyful personality, and she’s managed to turn her apartment into a space that perfectly reflects her unique, cheerful, and full of color style.

I instantly knew we had to collaborate. And, as if the stars had aligned, it turned out that Jony was actually looking for ideas to revamp her kitchen : the only room that hadn’t yet gone under her creative knife.

So, without wasting a second, I sent her a message offering we work together on a custom peel and stick wallpaper project. And just like that, the kitchen adventure began.

Today, we’re taking you behind the scenes of this colorful vintage kitchen transformation and showing you how to bring the same joyful, personalized vibe into your own home, inspired by Jony Amour.

How to create a colorful kitchen: step by step

Peel and stick wallpaper: the perfect way to set the tone

Whether you already have a clear idea of your dream kitchen or not, the first step is always the same: choose the peel and stick wallpaper that will define the room’s atmosphere.

Often seen as a decorative detail, the adhesive backsplash or peel and stick wallpaper can actually become the centerpiece of your entire décor. It sets the color palette, adds texture, and plays beautifully with light.

For quick kitchen decorating, we always recommend using peel and stick wallpaper instead of traditional wallpaper. It’s thicker, repositionable, and much easier to apply on smooth surfaces like backsplashes, shelves, or cupboard doors. All these advantages make it the perfect solution for a stylish wall makeover: no tools or glue required!

Moodboard for a vintage looking kitchen

Jony started by ordering a few Made of Sundays wallpaper samples to test colors from our collection, then used our online wallpaper customization tool to design her very own pattern.

She eventually went for colorful peel and stick wallpaper and decorative wall borders that were easy to apply and perfectly matched her vintage tableware and accessories.

💡 Decor tip: peel and stick wallpaper goes up without glue, can be repositioned along the application process and doesn’t require any special tools. A pair of scissors, a utility knife, and maybe a screwdriver for the cupboard handles… that’s it. Ideal for a quick and easy kitchen makeover without heavy renovations!

Add a café-style curtain for that French vintage charm

Another irresistible touch in Jony’s kitchen: small shelf curtains, reminiscent of a French village grocery shop or a local café.

If you have open shelves and want to hide a little clutter while keeping things warm and cozy, this is the perfect idea. These mini curtains add softness to the space and instantly create that retro French vibe.

💸 Budget-friendly tip: You can easily make them yourself using a piece of patterned fabric and a lightweight rod. You don’t even need to buy new fabric : a little bird told me Jony made hers out of old bed sheets!

Embrace the details and colorful tableware

We don’t often think about it, but your tableware, utensils, and accessories can be the true stars of your kitchen décor

Kitchen utensils can add nice decoration details

Instead of hiding everything away, Jony decided to show off her colorful mugs and glasses on open shelves, coordinate her oven mitts with the stripes of her wallpaper, and even make her sponges part of the fun. The result? A lively, welcoming atmosphere, unpretentious and full of life, far from the overly perfect, minimalist kitchens you see sometimes in magazines.

The secret is to embrace the joyful chaos, or rather, to turn chaos into charm. With a few thrifted vintage dishes, colorful bowls, and mismatched cups, you can create that same cozy, lived-in feeling.

👉 For a retro French kitchen style, skip the gray and white. Go for warm tones, old-school fabrics, and upcycled objects. The 1970s are back in home décor, and we’re here for it!

In summary

This vintage and colorful kitchen makeover in Lyon proves that you don’t need much to transform a space:

  • a custom peel and stick wallpaper,

  • a few carefully chosen textiles,

  • some second-hand vintage accessories,

  • and, above all, a little boldness and color.

Thank you, Jony, for this vibrant collaboration and for showing us that a kitchen can be practical, joyful, and truly one of a kind.
